If you move wc3 out of its default location you can screw up your Registry which makes it almost impossible to reinstall correctly, and is even possible to have your CD-Keys banned if you are not careful. I have talked to several people about this, and I know many people like to have 2 separate installs of the game for each version, but this can cause problems. I only have one copy of wc3 installed with one cd-key, and all I have to do is run the new Launcher.exe for 1.28 or if I run W3A it loads Frozenthrone.exe which is automatically on 1.26 its very very simple It does not require any extra steps or unnecessary downloads or secondary installs. When I download the 1.28 patch, it installs a new Launcher.exe that I now run instead of Frozenthrone.exe which allows me to play 1.28 using the new Launcher.exe while keeping 1.26a on the Frozenthrone.exe I switch between 1.26a and 1.28 very easily without requiring any additional setup.īefore I updated to 1.28 I had my game setup on 1.26a and working with W3A using the official Bnet patch for 1.26a. None of these extra steps are necessary, I don't know why so many people have trouble with this. Make sure to keep backups in order to undo problematic steps! This tutorial is based on my personal knowledge and testing. Patch the new installed WC3 folder up to v.1.26, using the patches from the mega-thread: Mirror 1 Mirror 2 So then your w3a or ICCUP (or whatever) client still will access the 1.26 folder and your 1.28.5. !CAUTION: No support or warranty of proper functions are given here by me. Download, run and install a WarCraft 3 client with the version 1.26 or below (into for example C:\Program Files (x86)\WarCraft III). Slim Tutorial: Get 1.26 and 1.28 using WarCraft Version Switcher by ghostwolf#5572 from my Discord-Community: Click on that link. Patch the new installed WC3 folder up to v.1.26, using the patches from the mega-thread: | Mirror 1 | Mirror 2 | Method A (very simple, see this reddit thread by LynxX5): ĭownload, run and install a WarCraft 3 client with the version 1.26 or below (into for example C:\Program Files (x86)\WarCraft III). I recommend Method A which you can find here. Situation C: You are using version 1.28.5 but want version 1.26 back Install WC3 with original CD-Keys and update it into 1.28.5 Situation B: You are using non-original CD Keys and you currently use version 1.26 Make sure to make distinct shortcuts for each version. So then your w3a or ICCUP (or whatever) client still will access the 1.26 folder and your 1.28.5 folder will be able to access BNet. Move the 1.26 backupped folder of step 1 into the old location (mostly C:\Program Files (x86)\WarCraft III) Move the v1.28.5 folder into a different location (for example C:\Program Files (x86)\WC3BNet) Situation A: You are using original CD keys and you currently use version 1.26 Play WarCraft 3 on, or other private realms (version 1.26)
